Several months ago, Rory came home, seeming extremely disturbed. She went straight to her room, locked the door, and called Daniel on her cell phone. About ten minutes later, he showed up at the house, looking as if he had seen a ghost. Rory came downstairs, and they left with no explanation.
Since Rory was fourteen, she and Draven have been talking to one another regularly. It turned out Draven was in trouble and had asked her to bring Daniel to his apartment. When they got there, Draven greeted Rory with a tight hug and a convincing kiss, and gave Daniel a light hug, calling him James. Irritated, Daniel insisted he tell him what the hell was going on, and Draven took him inside. Once there, he told Daniel his story.
Draven claimed that, a few weeks before Caspian was conceived, he had been 'raped' by a female co-worker. The morning Syd found out she was pregnant, said co-worker gleefully told him she was with child. He had been ready to tell Syd when she gave him her news, but he panicked, and, well, you know what happened. Now he was facing trouble from a local gang - his son's uncle was one of the members - and he needed Daniel's help to get out of it.
Daniel was, of course, highly skeptical of his story - especially that he had been raped. Draven stubbornly insisted, and Rory backed him up, saying she had met the woman who did it when she dropped Nolan off.
In the end, Daniel reluctantly gave in to his job as the oldest brother and took Draven to see Sebs. Rory left them alone then, taking Nolan to the park. When she returned, Draven had a busted lip, a black eye, and a bloodied nose, thanks to Daniel's ministrations. It turned out Draven had once been a member of the gang, and his 'rape' had been part of his initiation. Rory continued to insist they help Draven, and Daniel has never been able to deny Rory and Lily anything they want.
Draven is now in a drug counseling program and living with Sebs and me. He and Syd are on shaky terms to say the least, and Caspian downright hates him. Unfortunately, Rory and Syd are doing most of the work with young Nolan, who has had an extraordinarily confusing first five years. Syd found herself unable to dislike the child, who I think looks just like Draven did at that age. Daniel and Draven are hardly speaking, and Eoin, Tristan, and Bastian are studiously ignoring his existance, as they have been for the past five years.
