Grand Duke Benedikt, being a good hearted man with a romantic soul, had always wanted to marry for love, and since both of his parents had already expired, there was no one to arrange a marriage for him anyhow. He first came to know the Marchioness of Laar through her elder brother, who was an old schoolmate and hunter buddy of the Grand Duke's. When the Grand Duke first met her, Annalisa was only a child of 10, but Benedikt still remembers her golden curls and cherubic face. Annalisa, also a romantic soul, had refused several eligible men because none seemed interested in love. Then at the wedding of her YOUNGER sister (oh the horror!) Annalisa was reintroduced to an old acquaintance of her brother's, the slightly older, but boyishly handsome Grand Duke Benedikt. She found that night that he was a very fine dancer, and he found that the cherubic young lass he had once met had grown into an exquisite young woman. Their courtship was short, as both were certain they had met their soulmate, and everyone was thrilled at the wonderful match. The people of Westenberg rejoiced that their beloved ruler had chosen a bride, and she was welcomed to their country with love and admiration.
