I'm curious, why do you conclude that Passion is probably taken from the perfume rather than from the religious concept?

Because its popularity was primarily in the African-American community and seemed to parrallel that of other names taken from perfumes such as Chanel, Aviance, Toccarra, Ciara, etc.
