Such changes have taken place in Grunewald over the past 15 years that I scarcely know where to begin.
The birth of a royal child, particularly a royal heir, is always a time of great joy, but the arrival of little Prince John Patrick (so nicknamed to distinguish him from his father, John Patrick Thomas von Daalen Sr) was cause for double the celebration. Although only two years old, this child has already been named as the Heir Apparent to the Dukedom of Valensky, and is second in line to the throne of Grunewald, thus fully uniting two kingdoms who now not only have the same ruler, but also the same Heir.
In the same way as birth is such a blessing, death also lingers over us all. Our beloved King and Queen have been blessed with eight wonderful children, but sadly, as is to often the way, both Princess Marie and Prince Friedrich have been taken away from us, although their lives had bearly begun. Princess Marie's death from measles was unexpected, she was long thought to be the healthiest of all the royal children, our hearts broke with those of her royal parents.
Unlike his sister, Prince Friedrich was weak from the start. His father, in an act of unparelled love and devotion for his infant son, was insistent that the dying child be named after himself. An idea that he had renounced so violently at the time of the birth of his Heir, that no one had dared to mention it since. Love is a funny thing.
These are not the only new additions to the Grunewald royal family. Although it is the custom for the children of royal princesses not to be awarded the title of 'His/Her Royal Highness........ Prince of Grunewald', young Hermann, the son of Princess Sophie, and her Husband Prince Cornelius or Westenberg, is also a prince of Westenberg by right, and as such is entitled to bear the title (so to speak!). So that's okay then!
Princess Amaya, the youngest daughter of our King and Queen is the image of her deceased eldest sister, whom she bearly knew. Whether or not this resembance will count in her favour or not remains to be seen.
Prince Tudor, much like the Crown Prince, charms everyone he meets with his exquisite manners and loving heart, which he open to all people, rich and poor. He has the makings of a fine young man. Indeed, it is the opinion of many of the poorer folk that it is a great pity that he is only the youngest son, and unless great tragedy is waiting round the corner, he is unlikely to inherit anything.............
