[Games] Re: "Royal Dynasty" Congrats - Round 5
All right. I am officially enjoying this way too much: http://www.freewebs.com/dumbwaiter/royalty.htmI hope you don't mind; I'm putting the ages inside the deceased brackets. If it causes formatting trouble or anything I'll take 'em out.I am also changing the name of Maria Amalia's son, in light of the fact that I can choose different names from Nordskovic's. I am going to bold Prince Ivan's name. Also I am going to change some titles around? That's okay, right? They're my own titles. The siblings of the king change to grand dukes and duchesses - a mostly symbolic title, but princes and princesses are the children of the new king, and there musn't be any confusion! Even though there is, you know, loads anyway. I've changed more or less every title. Perhaps it would be easier just to copy and paste the whole thing?blaaarg

----DS [nb]: Alexander Johannes Hartwin von ShriekSo.~~Five years after all of that,~~King Klaus IV died of old age and exhaustion, and Crown Prince Philipp became Philipp II. As Philipp's first act, he arranged a quiet funeral at home and didn't announce his death or ascent until afterwards it was over, since he didn't want a huge crowd. Klaus was well-liked in Cussia and on good terms with most of the rest of the continent, as the fruits of his loins were married to most of them. Anna Luisa soon followed her husband into the afterlife from heartbreak, and she too was mourned greatly. We will speak of Philipp later when we examine Cussia's state of affairs, after checking up on the rest of the royal family.Duke Heinrich left the castle upon his father's death to take his seat in Westphalia. He and Magali had had two daughters - both named for him - but the first had died at two from whatever killed toddlers off so quickly back in those days. Consumption? He and Magali have already promised Lady Adelaide's hand to young Hermann von Westphalia (whose family, bafflingly enough, had lost control of the duchy and were now mere earls of the Westphalian Early of Thumm), which they hope will resolve tensions once and for all, although Machiavelli says this strategy never works.Maria Amalia is doing well; she sends postcards every so often. It's chilly in Nordskovic, but she likes Nikolai quite well and everyone treats her nicely. She is finding that she has a surprising amount of leverage over her husband's decisions. She has had another son in the meantime.Christina and Konstantin still live in the castle. Christina has had three suspiciously timed miscarriages since she has been married, none of which have caused her much emotional distress, as they allowed her to retain her figure. Konstantin isn't happy at all about this - he didn't particularly want to leave Sokolov in the first place, but he thought he'd get some sons out of it.Katarina is very, very intellectually sharp. With Philipp and her father's blessing, she has rejected several bids for marriage already. She is much more interested in art than in men.Franz Ignaz, meanwhile, is now a skinny brat. More on the pregnancy issue in a mo.All right. Lots has happened with Cussia that goes along with the invention of the printing press and Cussia's exposure to many nations. I will not beat about the bush. Enter the Renaissance. While the rest of the family was being silly, Philipp and Felicia had apparently been quietly planning what they would do after Philipp became King. (They've had two daughters, named ferociously for family. All of their children are dark-haired and eyed. Rudolf is quiet, like Philipp.) And when Philipp became king, they sprang into action: making church attendance mandatory, punishing heresy with death, claiming divine right, giving rigorous education to priests, founding a nunnery and monastery in every major province, calling for the reexamination and reprinting of sacred texts, renovating the churches, renovating the castle, etc. All of this has earned him the nickname "The Pious."But other developments, outside of Philipp and Felicia's control, are taking place in Cussia as well. The invention of the printing press and exposure to other cultures have greatly increased Cussia's economy (mostly from Marvalian merchants), creating a new demand for material goods, and also their intellectualism. They have borrowed and augmented advances in farming techniques, transportation, and manufacturing. Many serfs have left their land to become a part of the burgeoning middle class, which does not depend on the nobility for its livelihood, therefore centralizing the attention on the monarchy. And they were quite pleased with what they saw in Philipp and Felicia.Which is why Franz Ignaz's impregnation of Lady Sabine Lieselotte von Babenburg, the only daughter of the frightening Duke of Babenburg and his sister-in-law's dearest lady-in-waiting, was such a disaster. Not only was the nobility already fighting to keep its own power, but the exploits of Philipp the Pious's reckless younger brother caused a lot of snickers. Where Klaus would likely have flown into a rage and immediately ordered Sabine's execution and Franz Ignaz's banishment, Philipp and Felicia thought it over and gravely announced Sabine's execution and Franz Ignaz's banishment, after the birth of the child, who would be raised to become a priest and escape the sin of his parents. Terrified, Sabine fled with Franz Ignaz out of the country, and neither of them can be located. The Duke of Babenburg is steaming mad.
