Well, there's nothing like a bit of scandal, now is there?! Naturally, when a reigning monarch and his Dearly Beloved pass away at such close quarters there's bound to be a bit of whispering behind close doors. Not that anyone's blaming the new King John, mind you (at least not to his face!) Most people agree that it was ol age, which comes to all of us, after all, but there's that odd niggle of doubt.
But that isn't the worst (or the juiciest!) of it. who would have thought that Prince Tudor, the Golden Boy of the Grunewald Court, who everyone thought so much of, woul go and father an illegitimate child? Least of all the illegimate child of the daughter of Sir Matthew Haversham-Smyth. Probably one of the scariest men in the Kingdom. It's lucky that Prince Tudor is the son and brother of a King, because you can be sure any other man would have 'mysteriously vanished' by now!
Now, the laws surrounding the place of illegitimate children in the succession are very complicate in Grunewald. They can inherit from their royal fathers (and in theory even become rulers) but only with the King's permission. This is where Prince Tudor and his son were in luck. Old King Frierich would never have permitted such a thing, but Prince Tudor has always been a favourite with his eldest brother, and King John has decreed that, yes, young baby Michael can be named in the line of succession (at the last count he was in fact 7th in line to the throne!) BUT he is not permitted to use the title of 'His Royal Highness', and, in the event of Prince Tudor fathering legitimate sons, they will be place ahead of him. That is, unless Prince Tudor and Lady Amanda choose to marry, thus legitimising Michael. This is extremely unlikely at the moment since, following the birth of her son, Lay Amanda disappeared into hiding, leaving her bably in the care of his royal family. She hasn't been seen since.
