[Opinions] Amadou
What do you think of the boy's name Amadou? The prn, far as I know, is ah-mah-doo, and CKE suggested over on Facts that it's related to Ahmed / Ahmad. I'm really digging it right now--it's got a cool sound and look, and the meaning is awesome. I was thinking about Simon Amadou today, as far as combos go, but suggestions would be welcome.Thank you!Array

As far as 'Ama-' names go, I like Amadeus and Amadeo better, but Amadou has an innocent, amiable quality to it that is very attractive and charming.Simon Amadou is cute, but I'm really liking Lucien Amadou. I believe you already have an Edmond combo, but Edmond Amadou (and Edmond Amadou Artemas) has a wee bit of assonance to it that is very melodic and fun to say. I'm liking Cornelius Amadou, too.

Immediately made me think Agadoo. As in the song and dance...Ag-a-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, shake the tree
Aga-doo-doo-doo, push pineapple, grind coffee
To the left, to the right, jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night, sing with a hula melody!etc...

I've never heard of that song. Huh.Array

I don't hate it but the 'doo' sound at the end kind of puts me off. To me it sounds a bit childish. I much prefer Ahmed.

Like Amadou Diallo? The African immigrant shot up to pieces by the NYPD by mistake?I don't really like the sound, it sounds a lot like a sloppy way of saying "I'm going to do."

Like Amadou Diallo? The African immigrant shot up to pieces by the NYPD by mistake?Yeah, but he's hardly the first guy to bear the name. ;)Array

true but...He's the most well-known man in the USA to bear this name, I think.

I do like Amadou, in particular on account of Amadou and Mariam [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amadou_&_Mariam], who are pretty memorable and great. I agree with your pronunciation, assuming you're stressing the first syllable.Simon Amadou seems alright, but not glorious. I haven't got a whole lot of ideas for the practical implementation of Amadou, but here goes: Amadou John Paul
Frederick Amadou
Anton Amadou
Amadou Gray
Riley Amadou
Amadou Alexis
Amadou Carlo
Mariam Amadou
Desmond Amadou
Carl Amadou
Colin Amadou
Amadou Martin
Micky Amadou
Amadou Francis
Ansel Amadou
Amadou Vincent

There's the (Greek?) surname Adamou which is the same thing with two letter switched around. What's the meaning of Amadou? The same as Ahmad?Which syllable is it stressed on? I like ah-MAH-doo best.

No, the stress is AH-mah-doo. I'm sorry I didn't make that clear. :) And yes, the meaning is presumably the same as Ahmed.Array
