Generally, Duke Ivan has been a good ruler. He has put new laws making sure farmers are paid well and fairly, and has put a lot of time and effort into building schools for the poorer children. His daughter Juliana Mathilde has met her future husband, reassuring his people that they have a future in alliance with another great nation. Juliana Mathilde is a good and naive child, and has willingly agreed to this match, and the couple will be wed when she is in her late teens.
But recently, trouble has been stirring, and rumours abound say he is not fit for this.
Lady Katherine has finally fell in love, but not with the suitor she was given by her older brother. On the night before her wedding, her future husband was found dead in his bed, and Katherine was nowhere to be found. Three days later a message arrived to Sokolov from Lady Katherine announcing she had eloped with the Duke of Nottington, who is in line for the throne of his country, a political opponent to her suitors country, who have been at war twice in the last 150 years. Many suspicions surround the three royal families, Duke Ivan Marcovic did not expect a crisis to occur so early in his reign, and many people suspect war could rage between the three countries, unless Lady Katherine is found to be innocent. But for now, any alliances hoped to be made through Katherines marriage has been thrown out the window.
Because of this, Prince Frederick is the least of Ivan’s troubles. He has found himself two more mistresses. The royal family are pleading with him to take one of them as his wife, or else be stripped of his title and thrown out the palace. Frederick is not likely to settle down though, but has made clear that if he does it will be with Lady Jane von Smidt, as she has the most power. For this reason their children have not yet been given a surname, Lady Jane lives in hope she will be married to her prince, and the other mistresses and the children banished. The general public hope he will marry the maid Paulina Reeds, she is an innocent young girl and a daughter of a politician, not one of the old noble families. This could lead to a civil war, and Duke Ivan is worried, he has a lot to deal with at the moment. So far he has been a good king, but right now his bothersome younger siblings are making this difficult.
Meanwhile, Prince Konstantin is angry that his sons birth did not get as much public attention, while Prince Fredericks gained a lot of publicity. The royal family has been warned not to say much to the newspapers and tabloids, as a family dispute is not whats needed right now.
