[Opinions] Piedad
There is this girl in my school that everyone calls Piedad. I thought it was her last name, but in the yearbook it said it was her first name. I looked it up and it said Piedad in Spain means mercy. I forget how to pronouce it..anyone know? Also, wdyt? Imo, I don't really like it. It seems like it should be pronounced pie-dad.

The word in English is "piety." The name is ok and I like the meaning.

I like the meaning but I think Piedad is difficult for native English speakers to pronounce. Plus it makes me think of when I'm at Mass..."Senor, ten piedad..."

Even in its correct pronunciation, I don't like it. That initial pee sound really puts me off. And most English speakers are going to look at it and immediately think pie-dad, as you did, and I did.

I think it's a really pretty name. I know a Piedad, and it fits her beautifully--it's a name that's always sounded very bright and sunshiney to me, and she's a really nice, friendly person.Array

It would be something like pee-eh-DAHD, I believe. I don't really like it; it's either pie dad or pee dad in my eyes. =/
