[Opinions] WDYTO Lola?
I've been thinking of this name lately. I like the way it sounds, but is it a little too Hollywood? Also, is it better as a given name or a nn? I don't like Dolores, so what are other names it could be a nn for? Thanks!

I love this name. I like it better as a given. Dont know if these have been suggested though Lourdes, Lolita, Loretta and London.
I LOVE Lola! It's cute reminds me of a flower, for some weird, insane reason. But i lvoe it. Lola Rose is a cute combo. ;)

It's a GP of mine - I love it, but totally wouldn't use it. It sounds to me like comeone who ran away to Hollywood and changed her name. I would just use it as a give name, I can't think of any good full names for it.
I posted this under the wrong topic... time to wake up...
I'm so surprised this name is popular. All I can think of is "Lola, la la la la Lola" and "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl."
Maybe my impressions are out-dated. But I just can't get past them.

Only as a nickname, please! It's way too nicknamey for a full name. I am a little sick of seeing it, but have no problem with it either. Personally, I adore Dolores, but here are some other options:
Laura
Laurel
Lorraine
Louisa
Lucy
Lucia
Lucille
Aloisa
Apollonia
Philomela
Philomena
Colombina
Clotilda
Salome
Paloma
Polona
Lorenza
Longina
Ilona
Florence

I love the sound and look of Lola and I think it can absolutely be a full name. I don't like Dolores either. It is a bit of a popular name with the Hollywood crowd, but not too popular that I can't be used. The only thing that bothers me about the name, is the fact that it means 'sorrows'. I wouldn't want to call my DD that!
I love it as a nn. It works as a full name, but I prefer it as a nn.
I was making a whole list of you of my favorites as a full name from a list, but I accidentally closed the window :o. Since I am so lazy, here is the list: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?nmd=n&terms=*lo*&gender=f

If you'd asked about this name fifteen or twenty years ago, I'd be all up in your grill telling you how fabulous of a name it is and encouraging you to use it (it evokes fabulous memories of watching Der Blaue Engel. I still love it, but I'm so tired of seeing it. It's very celebrity-trendy right now, right up there with Ava. :( I think it could be a stand-alone name or a nickname. My personal preference is as a stand-alone name.
I know you don't like Dolores, but how about Dolorosa?
