[Opinions] Wdyt of Tierney?
I'm writing a story and want to switch a few of my characters names and Tierney keeps popping into my head.Do you think it's usuable?
And if it is do you like it?
Do you prefer it masculine or feminine?
Would you be inclined to use a nickname?

There's a (female) character named Tierney in the book Libby on Wednesday by Zilpha Keatley Snyder. It's usable, though I don't personally care for it. It's feminine to me probably b/c it's feminine in the book. I don't have any ideas about what Tierney would be a nickname for.

I've seen two Tierneys on the birth club online I belong to. I think it's pretty and definitely best for a girl. Doesn't seem like it has any nicknames though.

Like it a lotIn my mind it's a surname but as a given name I tend to think of it as female (bias, because it reminds me of actress Gene Tierney). I used to write sometimes about a female character named Tierney Kiel Stuart that I called TK.

Yes, it's been on my list for a while. I slightly prefer Tiernan though.

Masculine definitely.

No.

I think it could be used for a male, not a female. I don't mind it actually. Not too sure about a nn for it though.

It seems like a trendy-surname-as-fn, esp. when used on a girl, IMO. But most of all, it just reminds me of the word "tyranny". :-/ Not so great.

It's certainly usable - not within my own style zone, but far from bad. I hear it as feminine. No NNs spring to mind right now, aside from maybe Ernie, and that's a stretch.

it reminds me of tyranny.

Do you think it's usable? Yes, particulary for a character. And if so do you like it? I'm pretty neutral on this one. I don't have many feelings for it either way.Do you prefer it masculine or feminine? Masculine. I never even thought of it as feminine, but I could see it.Would you be inclined to use a nickname? Maybe the occasional Tier, but probably not.

I guess it's usable. I would think of it as feminine because the one times I've seen it as a fn, it's on girls.I don't like it at all, it sounds WASP-wannabe, and also sounds very much liek tyranny. Cant' think of any nns.

Reminds me of the ER actress, Maura Tierney. Otherwise a good name for a boy.
