Nicknames are affectionate, playful, familiar names used by people close to you - you generally don't get to pick them. And surnames are distancing and formal (and if affectionate, it's a distanced affection, the only kind that is acceptable for males to show one other in most contexts -- like when you call someone by their surname). So no, not IMO... but if it is your actual last name, sure, as long as your friends naturally "feel it."
