I much prefer Lily. Lillian sounds so little old lady to me. I did see LilyAnn once in a birth announcement, and like that because it is more like a combo name than a respelling of Lillian.
Lily is so soft, feminine and pretty. Lillian is less feminine and has a bit of a harshness to me.
