[Opinions] Devereux
I met a little girl (about 2 years old) named Devereux today. I had never heard it as a fn before, just a surname.WDYT? I think I'd prefer it on a boy, but even then it's nms since it's a surname...and kind of a pretentious one at that (unless it's actually a family name).

I might add it to my list

For some reason, I quite like it.And I'm not sure why. :-D I doubt I'd use it, but it's the not the most awful name. It could be a family name, and even if it isn't, she could say it is. :-D I'd agree with Belldandy, though, it would be great for a snobby cat!

Haha. I have some very distant ancestors named Devereux, and for a long time I thought it was just gorgeous and delightfully snobby. I still think both of those things, but I've decided that the Devereux's in my family are waaay too distant for me to allow myself to use it.I like it in the same way that I like Tippins--as an elegant surnamey middle name for a girl. But I don't like it as a first name very much at all.Hee. Octavia Tippins Devereux. Oh man.

I have ancestors named Devereux, as well. They're from the 16th century. I wonder if they are the same ones?

It's quite likely. My computer, the one with my family tree file, is in the shop right now, but my Devereux's are in with a whole mass of Edwardian English nobility that I was quite excited to find. Are yours similar?

It works best on a cat. A really snobby cat.

I like feminine names for girls and surnames are nms anyway.

I don't like it that much; not a fan of surname names in general. Are you sure it wasn't Devorah or Devra, though? In my accent they'd sound very nearly the same, and they're much nicer names imo . . .

I'm sure...I saw it written.

I kind of like it, personally.

Ew, I think it's obnoxious. The mom probably reads Jude Deveraux and thought it'd be a cool name for a kid.

I like it, but I also like names like Baudelaire and Cavanaugh as fn's! LOL!
