[Opinions] Devora
I have recently come across the name Devora and fallen in love with it. I think I like it because it sounds a bit like Davina which has been a long-term favourite of mine. This website lists it as Devorah so I am assuming that is the usual spelling. What do you think of it as a name? Would it seem strange to see it used in a non-Jewish family? Which spelling do you prefer: Devora or Devorah? Thanks.

I like the name Devorah! I know a lady with this name. She's in her fifties but I still think a child today could use this name! My grandmothers name was Deborah and I think it works good as an honoring name for her!I think it would work for an non Jewish family!

I like it much better than Deborah.I like the spelling Devorah, but to make it stand apart from Deborah, I'd go with Devora. It's very pretty.

Is it DEV-or-ah or deh-VOR-ah? I think I prefer the former, but either way, it's too similar to Deborah for me. I don't care for Deborah much at all, but at least Devorah is a bit nicer. If it's deh-VOR-ah, it reminds me of a little girl I used to care for named DeBorah (deh-BOR-ah). She was a piece of work. :b

I really like the name Devora though I think it looks prettier with an h on the end. I wouldn't expect it from a non-Jewish family but I don't find it particularly strange.

I don't like the way the written name reminds me of the word "devour." I think I would assume the bearer's Jewishness was about 80% probable, which means it would not seem "strange" if she were not. I prefer it without the H. I also feel like the Devorah spelling is more likely to induce people who're unfamiliar with the name, to pronounce it to rhyme with Deborah (stressing the first syllable). I don't really have a preference on the pronunciation; I guess de-VOR-a is a bit fresher. The sound is pleasing either way, though.

I also think that many people would pronounce Devorah in the same way as Deborah whereas Devora would be more obvious as De-VOR-a which is the pronunication I prefer.

I quite like it, and I think it would be fine regardless of background. I personally prefer it with the h.
