Theron Windham came from a long line of doctors. His father, his grandfather, and 3 of his 4 great-grandfathers (they family refuses to talk about the 4th . . .) were medical men, and when the time came for Theron to choose his career, he naturally decided to go to medical school. Womanizing is also a trait shared by the men of Theron's family, and he played the role well, having flings with almost every nurse in sight. That is, until he met Roxanne Larson. She was not like the other women Theron dated. She was not only beautiful, but smart, witty, and very intriguing. As much as Theron wanted to dislike her, he couldn't, and as much as she wanted to dislike this cocky medical student, she also could not. They were married less than a year later. Now, a year and a half after their wedding, they have there first child. Theron never expect to settle into family life this quickly (his father didn't marry until he was 40!), and Roxanne is not 100% sure he'll be able to. Will the former womanizer grow bored with marriage and family soon or will Roxanne keep her hold on the young doctor?
Another event uncharacteristic of Theron happened very soon after he began his plastic surgery residency at a prestigious hospital. A young boy, Fernando Miguel, was brought to Theron's hospital after being rescued from poverty in Guatemala. The 8 year old had been orphaned when his single mother died and no other family members could be found. Fernando had been born with severe facial malformations that would require extensive surgery, so a group of doctors who had traveled to Guatemala to provide medical services to the underprivileged decided to take Fernando back to the states to repair his face (the malformations caused considerable breathing and feeding problems). Upon meeting Fernando, Theron was immediately struck by the boy, unlike he ever had been by another patient. He didn't know what was different about Fernando, but he just seemed so lively and intelligent. It all comes together when he sees the name of Fernando's mother written on a form: Rosa Marita Benito-Suarez-Valsalva. A flashback of a Spring Break trip to Guatemala 8 years ago haunted Theron at that moment and he recalled the beautiful young waitress he had spent that week with: a woman by the name of Rosa Marita Benito-Suarez-Valsalva. Could Fernando's mother be that same waitress? As Fernando's reconstructive surgeries were completed the pieces started coming together as the boy started to look more and more like his father. Theron secretly drew the boy's blood and his own and sent the specimens to the blood bank for paternity testing. When it came back positive Theron was hardly surprised, yet all the blood left his face and he stood unable to speak. How could he have ANOTHER child? He didn't know how to explain the situation to Roxanne, yet he knew he was responsible for Fernando, so he submitted adoption forms for Fernando without consulting his wife. How he would later explain the situation is to come . . .
