My take:

Jaime -- Spanish boy's name. "HIE-mee" or "HIE-may"

J'aime -- French phrase meaning "I love." Not a name. Pronounced, "zhem."

Jamie -- Adorable nn for the boy's name James. "JAY-mee"

I truly hate any of these as a girl's name.

I love Jamie as a NN for James. I hate Jim/Jimmy, but Jamie is so adorable.

Jaime either looks like HIE-may or JAYM. It does not look like it would be pronounced JAY-mee. That's why it annoys me so much when in my English class, where we're reading Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits, people keep pronouncing one character's name as JAY-mee when it's spelled Jaime and the book is set in a Spanish speaking country. I mean, even my English teacher says JAY-mee, and she should be able to know it's not that.

My nephew is Jaime pronounced JAY-mee....

but I think it's stupid.

Thank you! Whenever I see Jaime, I pronounce it HIE-mee, even if I know it's supposed to be a girl. My family just rolls their eyes at me anymore. I'm like, 'what, that's how it's supposed to be pronounced!' LOL.

Agree.

And, aside, Jaime always looked like a typo of Jamie to me. I like Jamie or Jamey as a nn for a boy.
