I recently read a sample chapter of a book that it coming out in February (Predatory Game by Christine Feehan if anyone is curious) and the main female character's name is Saber.
I actually really like this name, if not for a real life child then for a character. It's unusual but sounds really nice, imo.

Too saber tooth tiger for me... it's not the best association. There is this show "Mom,Wife, Bounty Hunter" or something like that and there's a girl on there with the name Sabree (SAY-bree). Sounds a little similar to Saber... not sure if it's any better though.

I'm not big on Saber, because it reminds me of well, the noun, a saber, or a saber-tooth tiger.
However there was a girl I knew when I was growing up named Sabra, which I've always thought had a nice sound to it.

I think Saber is terribly contrived. As a character name, you would really only expect to see it on a certain type of character, like a superhero or supervillain or somebody with superpowers. You wouldn't expect to see Saber as a nurse or an art teacher or a hotel desk clerk.

Pretty, if it's pronounced SAH-ber.
I read christine feehan... the story lines are terrible in my opinion but the eroticism is breath taking, lol.

As in a saber-tooth tiger? no thanks. It would be especially unfortunate for a girl. So, I'd say out of the question for a real-life child.
For a character, it would have to be justified in some way, otherwise I wouldn't be able to concertate on a story because I'd keep wondering why the heck she had beem bestowed such a bizarre name.
