[Opinions] Kat
I'm head over heels with the nn Kat. I was pretty sure I liked it with Kathleen, but I also really like Katherine.
So, if you had to choose one, would you choose Kathleen or Katherine "Kat", and why? (Most importantly why, because otherwise I would have done a poll) :)
And what do you make of Jeana (JEE-na) and Matilda?
Thanks in advance!

Katherine and Kathleen both work. I like and know people with both but I personally like Katherine better. But if I name my daughter, either one, she might want to go by Katie too so keep that in mind although Kat is pretty and cute.
I would spell Jeana Gena because people might not realize that the Jean part is its own sylabol and is like the name Jean not Je-ana. Matilda makes me think of the movie or a medieval woman because it was used commonly back then. A nickname could be Mattie.

Definitely Katherine. Katherine was around far longer than Kathleen, which I believe is a surname. Kathleen also sounds like a name someone going through a mid-life crisis would have(sorry all you kathleens). Kathleen. It sounds like a lean calf- a name for an animal maybe but not for a girl. But hey, if you're gonna call her Kat she might as well have the name Kathleen, so no matter what you call her it just refers back to animals.
Ooh, that's a hard decision! I think I'd go with Kathleen. Kathleen is such a great name and it hasn't been getting much use lately, so it's fresher. But I'd be thrilled to see either.
I don't really like Jeana. It looks odd (and I have the urge to say jee-AN-a, not JEE-na) and I don't like the sound as much as plain Jean. Matilda's quite nice.

Kathleen!
My mom's name is Kathleen NN Kat! She said my aunt started calling her Kat when she was about 11 yrs. old. I think it was originally supposed to be a joke between sisters (Kat wasn't a popular NN when my mom was a kid), but then everyone started calling her Kat and it stuck with her.
Jeana and Matilda are okay. Pretty names, but just not for me.

I went to college with a girl named Catherine, who went by Cat. I always really liked her nickname, as it seemed such a fresh alternative to Cathy/Kathy or Catie/Katie. I prefer Katherine to Kathleen, because Katherine is the older version, and Kathleen seems very 1950s to me. I don't really care for the "een" sound at the end of names, such as Maureen or Doreen.
I don't really care for the spelling Jeana, I think Gina is better. But overall Jeana or Gina seems incomplete to me, like half a name.
I know people are starting to love Matilda, but I really dislike it. I just think it's ugly.

I adore Kat. I prefer Katherine to Kathleen, but if I'm being really nitpicky, I'd go with Katharine. :) Katarina "Kat" is a favorite of mine as well. I like Kathleen without a nickname.
Jeana is pretty, though I prefer just Jean. Snappy.
I love Matilda as well. In fact, I think a combo of mine used to be Jean Matilda!
