I personally think the name does not have enough history or common useage to not be made fun of, it isn't fair or politically correct, but I'm afraid it will happen. It is not, as you say, a very classic name, like Michael or James.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the term "gaylord" used to insult someone who is gay? So it is not just the first three letters that will do it.
