I love Rudolph. It's so dignified and strong and imperial. And red. It is so evocative of a deep, fierce red to me for some reason. I was very delighted to discover that my father had an uncle called Rudolph (sketchy honoring, I know, but I'll take it) and also that Rudolph's Ru and Roberts Ro come from the same root, so I can use it to honor Robert. kind of. Oh, I love it. And I adore Rudy too.
A. No, it isn't. No one's ever mentioned that to me, actually. (I love Adolph, too--why couldn't Hitler have been named Aedan or something?!) I think the reindeer association overrides the Hitler one--which is sketchy at best--in most cases. Or at least the ones I encounter.
B. Eh, oh well. The people who know him will get over it. Before I considered Rudolph as a name, I considered it...I guess like a title for the reindeer, because I didn't know any Rudolphs, so naturally it would have been ridiculous as a name to me. So the people who know him will get over it. And "Rudy" does help for the people who meet him.
