[Opinions] Jack
We are pregnant with baby number 4. We are hoping for a boy, and my husband dearly loves the name "Jack". I like it, too, however, it seems like a nn to me. What is a longer version of it without being trendy? Is there even one? Already suggested John to my husband, and he was a definite NO on that. Any ideas?

Jack was orginally a nickname and still can be. But, it has been popular as a first name for awhile, so it can be either way. The only names I can think of that can have the nickname Jack beside John are Jackson and Jonathan.

It's nice, but I agree it's more of a nickname than a full name. Apart from John, James and Jacob could work.

I love Jack, it's classic, but it has certain something to it. I would go with Jack plus a longer more traditional middle name.

I'm usually a stickler for "proper" names on the bc but with Jack, I make an exception. It's just so different from John that I see it as being able to stand alone (along the same lines of Molly/Mary).One name I've seen with the nn Jack is Jonathan. Jackson ("son of Jack") has always seemed silly to me. I'd just stick with Jack if it were me.

I think Jack does fine on it's own, but here are some ideas:Jack:Jackson would be longer, but also trendy-ish...
Jacoby
Jacob
Jacobus
Joachim
Ajax
Jannick
Jaxon
Jachin
Jarek
Jericho (with a little imagination...)

Not my thread or anything...but Jannick, nn Jack is absolutely brilliant! *furtively jots it on list for hypothetical future DS*

Of your list...Since some of them are not traditionally the extended version of Jack, it became so clever and brilliant! Some of them I liked, and some my husband liked:Jackson (husband liked)
Jacob (both liked)
Joachim (I liked)
Jannick (I liked)
Jaxon (husband liked)
Jachin (I'm still deciding on this one)
Jarek (I like)Thanks again. You really did open up some doors for me with your perspective.
