As a committed "surnames are for handing down heritage" advocate, I cannot give the thumbs up for Cavanaugh. How about Cavan? It's a county in Ireland and has a lovely ring to it. (Take the "aw" part off of Cavanaugh.) Just a thought.
Seriously, anyone who really wants to make me look silly can. Every once in a while I indulge in surnames like Keir and Cameron, so I do understand the attraction. I once thought Kinsella would make a nice girl's name.

Cavan is really much nicer imo. I really dislike the "aw" sound in Cavanaugh and it's really too surnamey for me.
