[Opinions] Elah.
I've been told this is pronounced just like Ella, but would E-la still be okay, or would it be too weird? Would Elah look like a kreativ version of Ella? Also: Sabra, Sidra, and Thisbe: Honest opinions.

I prononce Ella and Elah the same.
Sabra (sah-brah to me) is cute, a bit out there. Sidra is very interesting http://www.behindthename.com/submit/view.php?name=sidra
. Thisbe is nms.

Thanks for the info on Sidra.I was curious about that - and the info is correct, right? Hmm.

I'd be inclined to pronounce it AY-lah on first glance, actually. It's pretty, in any case. Sabra is too reminiscent of "sabre" for me, and Sidra just doesn't really appeal to me tonight, but I've always loved Thisbe.Array

Yes, Elah looks like a creative version of Ella.:)

When I first saw it, I was saying E-lah. I don't see Ella, but I am not one that always gets it right, or maybe its the fact that I really dislike Ella.

I'm sorry but what is the difference between pronouncing Elah and Ella? I say both 'E-lah'.Sabra -ok, but seems nicknamish for some reson
Sidra -'sidro' means anchor (on ships) in Croatian, so no
Thisbe -not a fan of city names on humans, but it has a nice sound

In the US it's ELL-a.I'm glad to know that some do pronounce it e-lah, though. Ty.

I like Elah (and also Ela) pronounced the same as Ella. To me it's obvious that it's a Hebrew name that just happens to be pronounced the same as Ella, but non-namesnerds might think it was a creative attempt at varying Ella.I don't like EE-la, it sounds like a strange feminisation of Eli to me.Sabra is alright but I think of cactuses for some reason. Sidra is nms sound-wise, and Thisbe's pronunciation is counter-intuitive and I think of thistles. So I guess none of those are really my style lol.

I've also seen Ellah, which is supposedly Scottish.

I would instinctively pronounce Thisbe TIZ-bee, and that's how it seems to be being said in the soundbite here: http://www.answers.com/topic/thisbeHowever, the pronunciation guide on the same page seems to say THIZ-bee.I would automatically say it TIZ-bee out loud, but would hear THIZ-bee in my head, so it's a confusing one for me!FWIW, I hear 'frisbee' as much as 'thistle' lol.

Whew, I'm okay.I always said it THIZ-bee, but when you said counter-intuitive I figured I had it wrong.
