[Opinions] Katharine/Catherine
Catherine, and variants of it, was my top name for years and years. It fell a few years ago, but I've suddenly taken a liking to it. It would be the name of my SIL, but I'm still tempted to use it. I would most likely call her Kay, I think. Wdyt? I was thinking about Katharine May or Catharine May, though I would probably use the second spelling. I'm also thinking about variants, such as Catria.

Definitely Catherine--it's a striking name with so much history.
Catherine May is a great combo and I'm so glad you're not considering Kate or Katie...blech, the world has enough of them. Kay is nice but I'd only use it if you choose the K spelling. WDYTO Cat, Catt, Caja / Kaja, and Katja?

I prefer Katherine. For some reason I like the 'er as opposed to the 'ar. Not sure why.

My name is Catherine! I like that you aren't doing Cate/Catie/Kate/Katie. That's what I got stuck with, and there are 500 of them. My mum wanted to call me Cat, but my grandmum threw a hiss fit about it. So now I'm constantly mispelled 'Katie.'So I think it's lovely, and I prefer the 'C' spelling, but that's obviously a personal bias. And yes, go with the unusual nickname. Much much better, and Kay is lovely. A question, if you go with a C spelling, will she still be Kay spelt that way? Or Cay? (Which looks weird to me.)

I love the spelling Katharine. It's gorgeous, imo.

Katherine or CatharineI prefer the spelling K-A-T-H-E-R-I-N-E. Call me picky, but I read An Abundance of Katherines and cannot see it spelled any other way. Besides I have an Aunt Katherine.I must confess I absolutely hate it with an A after the H. I don't know why, but it bothers me to no end. I don't really like it with a C either, but I can stand it. It's better than the ending -ryn at least. So out of your choices, I'd say Catharine May. (Catria is pretty too, though.) May is okay, but it's sort of a filler. People in her class might call her "Catty Mae" unintentionally, trying to be funny. (My classmates used to call our band director "Reggie Mae" -- or "Fergie.") And then one day they would find out her middle name actually was May.

I like it. Normally I'd say I prefer Katharine, but Catharine is growing on me. I'm not generally a fan of 'C' names. Catharine May is nice, I do however prefer Katja over any form or variant of Catharine.

K looks to harsh for a girl. May is not a fav, but Catherine May just go nicely together. I prefer Cate, or Katie as a nn for Catherine.

That's nice.Cate and Katie are much too popular for me, and I prefer my girls' names to be harsh rather than too feminine and frilly - I much prefer feminine names that are historical with a strong usage - Margaret, Katharine, Magdalene, Judith, Miriam - as opposed to wimpy, frilly names.

Lovely name, but I'd prefer the second "a" to be an "e".

I love both Catherine and Katharine. I think Kay makes a lovely nn, especially if the full name is Katharine May. I prefer it spelt with a K only because I see it spelt that way less often here. I *love* Caitria and its definitely my favourite variant. =)

My favourite spelling of the name has always been Katharine and I love the nickname Kay. Catharine is nice but I think it's the least popular spelling so it may get misspelled as Catherine a lot.

I love the name (one of my top favorites), though my preferred spelling is either Katherine or Kathryn. The "C" does absolutely nothing for me, and I don't particularly care for the "a" in place of the "e". Definitely, if I had to choose, though, I'd go with Katharine May, which is a lovely combo imo.

Katharine/Catherine May is beautiful. Either spelling is pretty, I actually like both. But I do prefer the Catherine spelling mostly.

I prefer Catherine May for Saint Catherine of Alexandria...plus I think 'K's look clunky. I am not a big fan of Kay, but I do like that you aren't using Katie/Catie/Kate etc. I am also more partial to Mae, 'y's feel clunky to me also, but that is obviously a personal bias.

I prefer it spelled "Katherine", but any way is nice. It's classic, classy, and popular. I like your choice of nickname, too. There are so many "Katie"s!As for variants, I'm a fan of Katarina (with Katya as a nickname).
