I wouldn't, really.
Odessa reminds me of the city, and when I think of it, I immediately think of the pogroms carried out against its Jewish residents. It carries negative connotations for me for that reason.

Hmm. I had never heard of a "pogrom" until I read your post and looked it up. Interesting and sad, but it doesn't cross over to the name to me. Mostly because I don't think of the city when I say Odessa.
