[Opinions] Idol
I was watching American Idol the other day. A girl went into labor during her wait. She decided to name her baby Idol. They just showed her real quick and that is what she said. So what is your opinion of this? I get why she named her son Idol but I wouldn't. I think I would have named him Simon instead hahaha lol. After Simon Cowell of American Idol. That way she would still be naming him after American Idol if she would have went with Simon. She could have used Simon, Randy or Ryan. But of those I prefer the name Simon. What is your opinion?

Actually, Idol isn't his fnI remember seeing this on the news when the auditions were actually held several months ago. His full name is Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan (McCowan being the ln--which is similar to Cowell, so Simon as his fn really would've been quite apt, lol). Mom's name is Antoria. I'm not a big fan of Jamil but it's MUCH better than Idol. I thought I remembered hearing his fn wasn't Idol, but on the show last night they definitely made it sound like it was. :-/ http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/story?id=3463234&page=1

I didn't know that :) When they showed her on the show, she said that she named her son Idol due to going into labor awaiting the auditions. Thats all she said. So I assumed that was his only name haha lol. That is good to know :)

Phew!Jamil is much better than Idol. I know a Jamila and I always loved her name. Jamil takes a bit of getting used to, but I like the sounds of it very much. Idol as a name would have been awful.

Quite ridiculous if you ask me. I really don't like Idol as a name (not a fan of the show either). It seems to me like the mom appreciated the extra attention the weird name provided for her, she wouldn't be sitting there if she didn't like attention to begin with...I vote for the boys name to be something the mom had picked out, something not related to Idol. (but of your options I like Ryan best)

They'll melt down gold and make statues of him when he gets a little older, and then God is gonna have to come down and lay the smackdown.AKA, ugh. I can understand why people might like the sound of deific names--Messiah does have a cool sound, I'll admit it--but they make me quite uncomfortable.Array

How about Nigel for Nigel Lythgoe?
Actually, Simon would have been apt - if not for Cowell then for series originator Simon Fuller.
(I love that show - it's on in the UK in an hour!)

I think Idol is pretty bad. Add another vote for Simon!
