[Opinions] Mercer
I was introduced to this name as a character in a book and immediately liked it. The full name was Mercer Lane, which I thought had a great sound despite sounding like a place someoned lived.
WDYT of Mercer, and any combo suggestions? I could never use it because it sounds ridiculous with my last name, but it might go into GP status. :)

I don't care for it and I went to high school with a girl with that surname, so that's how I see the name.
It makes me think of Mercer Mayer, the children's author. I don't really like it, but it's not terrible.
Well, my in-laws live on Mercer Ct. which is just off of Mercer St. If I were to meet someone named Mercer Lane it would definitely make me smile.
It's always good to have a guilty pleasure file for naming!

Well I think of Mercer Street (street in Manhattan's SoHo) and full name Mercer Lane is even more reminiscent!
I'm reminded of Mercer Mayer, who writes the Little Monster and Just Me And My _____ books for children.
I don't care for it at all on anyone but him--he was born in the 40s, he can get away with it. On a kid today, it sounds trendy and blegh.

Eh...
Well, I can only think of Mercer Island (in Washington State). I could totally imagine a street called Mercer Lane. :-/
Anyhoo, is Mercer m or f?

Oh, sorry... ew. I think it'd awful for a girl. I'd just name her Mercy!

Whew!
It still reminds me of Mercer Island, but I guess it's okay for a name. For a guy. Now then:
Mercer Andrew
Mercer Gregory
Mercer James
Mercer Edmond
Mercer Peter
Mercer Clarence
Mercer Finley
Mercer Thomas
Mercer Quinn
Mercer Anselm
Mercer Westley
Mercer Paul
Mercer Fritz
Mercer Isidor
Mercer Roberto
Mercer Grant
Mercer August
Mercer Nicholas
Mercer Jonas
Mercer Abram
Mercer Elijah
Mercer Shawn
Mercer Tadgh
Ian Mercer
Simon Mercer
Oliver Mercer
Robert Mercer
Peregrine Mercer
I started on Mercer as a middle name, but then realized that it is SO much like a surname that it sounds okay with just about anything. *shrugs*
I think I went a little overboard on this one... And it's a weekend, so you may not even see this. Oh, well... It was fun to do! :-)

Mercer is the name of a local private college in Macon, Georgia and I know of at least one person named this, probably after a prominent family in the area. I think the name is very upper-class sounding (perhaps because it sounds so surnamey), but I really like it.
I'm horrible at coming up with good combo suggestions though. I'll leave that to someone else.
