I'm going to have to go against the grain and say that I don't like it. It's one of those names that is both dated and flat-out ugly to me, kind of like Gerald, Ronald, or Larry. Roy has a sort of 1960's small-town corn-fed feel to me, and in a more unattractive than quaintly nostalgic way.

An uncle of my mother's suggested that she name me Royal after himself. :-P His name was Roy, anglicized from Rocco.
