Maria volunteers regularly at the local womens shelter and recently befriended a 14 year old runaway. She had gotten pregnant by her 18 year old boyfriend (who recently left for basic training) and was terrified to face her parents. Living on the streets was rough, but she had enough conviction to feel that abortion would be wrong. When this girl went into labor prematurely, she called Maria to be at her side. The girl knew she would be unable to care for this baby, and gave it instead to Maria. So sweet baby Charlie has been living with Maria for the past two months and has been rough, but great. Maria worries how this could affect her dating life, but hopes the right man will come along soon.
