Help[Opinions] WDYTO Clorinda
This was my great-grandmother's name. She died a year before I was born, but was known for her intellectual inclination and love of reading at a time where women received little academic education., as well as for her wit and sense of humour. The name comes from a character of the 16th century Italian epic "Jerusalem Delivered"

So what do you think of Clorinda? It's one of my unofficial middle names (appears in birth certificate, but I don't need to sign it). I wouldn't have minded it as a first name because it's very uncommon, unlike my own name. The great-grandmother in question hated it and forbade her daughters to use it on their own children (until recently, it was the norm in Italy to name kids after their grandparents).

It is pretty and I like that it has an interesting history. I remember hearing it, but I can't remember where. I'm partial to the idea of warrior-maidens too.
The fact that your great-grandmother hated it reminds me of a similar situation in my family. My great-great-grandparents gave my great-grandma Eugenia as a middle name after their friend Eugene who was killed in a car accident shortly before their wedding. It was passed to my grandma (also as a middle name) and it was supposed to be my aunt's middle name, but my grandma didn't like it. I love Eugenia and I wouldn't have minded it as a middle name. It is far less common (and trendy) than Nicole. Oh well. :-)

Well, it's not a bad name at all but, in all honesty, it's not one of my favorites. I love the story you shared about your GG. I know a Clorinda (she's in her late 20's) and everyone calls her "Chloe" now. She is also Italian and I believe she was named after one of her grandmothers too!

It's sounds great and unusual :) Plus, she sounds like a great namesake.
Clorinda is just a bit too frilly for me, but I think it's perfectly useable for someone else. It's a shame the Clorinda in person hated it.
