I love the name Augustine and I have decided to use it if we have a boy. I think we will use August for a nn. I am having a hard time with a mn though.

Austin is a form of AugustineSo as well as Augie and Gus, you could use Austin as a nn for Augustine. Fritz is a great nn for Fredrick, but I would not use it as formal name, too short for my taste. Besides, I loved a children's book about cats when I was a child. One of the cats was named Fritz, so I also think of a cat when I see the name.Fritz Crispin does not flow well, but if his formal name was Fredrick it would not matter. I don't think you use a nn with a mn."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

Augustine is a great name (I personally prefer it on a boy). Fritz is NMS though.

Question:Is Augustine usable on a girl? Everyone is saying it sounds girly or that they perfer it on a girl (except for the two of us..hehe).
Does that mean it's been used on girls before? :p-Seda*

Ooooh -- Augustine is wonderful. Very historic. The nn possibilities are darling: Auggie or Gus. I'm never sure if I would pronounce it "a-GUS-tin" or "AW-gus-teen." I like both.Augustine Frederick
Augustine Max
Augustine Peter
Augustine Leo
Augustine Henry
Augustine George
Augustine FelixI love the name Fritz, but only as a nn for Frederick. It doesn't seem serious enough to stand on its own.

Augustine isn't really my style. I think Augusta could be quite cool though. On the other hand, I love Fritz. I prefer it as a nickname for Frederick, but I think it could stand alone well enough. I think Fritz Crispin has too many 'i's in it, it makes it sound very snippy to me. I had a quick glance at your favourites list, and I really like Fritz Aulay.

Hmmm...I like Augustine quite a bit...for a girl. I usually really dislike boys names for girls, but this one just reminds me of so many French girls names...Christine, Géraldine, Amandine...it seems to fit in with them. I wouldn't mind it for a boy, but if I was to use it, it would be for a girl.I also like Augusta and August (for a boy) although I don't like any of them enough to be on a top favourites list.I like both Fritz and Crispin a lot. They would both actually be great cats names :-) but fine for people too. However, I don't like them together at all. They're both too...crispy, somehow. I don't know how else to describe it! They're both sort of crackly, like peanut brittle, and putting them together is just too much.~ Caitlín
