It a GP of mine. Matisse is one of my favourite artists and I think it sounds spunky for a girl. I would be more likely to use it as a mn though.

Maty is cute as a nn for Matilda or something, but I don't like Matisse as a first name at all. It's a surname. Plus it only makes me think of the painter.

I dislike Matis / Matisse on a boy, but on a girl it's even worse and weirder... Maty is cute, that's my daughter's nickname (Mati, for Mathilde).

I like it, but more as a mn.

Matty/Maddy/Maty etc are pretty common and dull with all the Madisons and Madelyns/Madelines etc out there.
