[Opinions] Mary/Marie
Ok... A while back I was toying with the name Marie-Clare, I think I must have tossed it because of the magazine, but I've been thinking about it again, and also Mary-Jane, Marybeth, Marilena and Marylou... and I hate to admit it, but Mary-Kate. What do you think of these, and can you think of any other Marie / Mary- names?

I like Mary- names with unexpected middle names. One of jeziana's is Mary Zelda, which I think is very interesting. I have a character named Mary Griselda based off that combo. Mary Emma is also interesting to me.
Others:
Mary Jean (conventional but I like it)
Mary Margaret (ditto)
Mary Amelia
Mary Susan (Mary-Sue...eh)
Mary Ellen
Mary Alice (I like this)
Mary Adele
Mary Frances
Mary Joan
Mary Louise
Mary Matilda
Mary Ruth
Mary Victoria (no longer than Mary Elizabeth, which I hear frequently)
Mary Penelope (could be shortened to Mary Nell)
Mary Virginia
I like a lot of Marie double names. Marie-Cecile is great. But really, I think it goes well with most French names.

Mary Jane, unfortunately, reminds me of marijuana. Mary Kate is all right but puts me in mind of not only the actress, but Mary Kaye cosmetics. The others I don't really like- I don't like very many double names. A lot of them sound clunky. I do like:
Annemarie or Annmarie
Marianne (or Marian)
Marilyn
Marlene (mar-LE-nuh, not mar-LEEN)
Rosemary
Suggestions for Marie names:
Marie-Cécile
Marie-Christiane
Marie-Rose
Marie-Jeanne
Marie-Catherine (ka-TREEN)
And for boys, Jean-Marie.

I love Mary, and like you I have a soft spot for Mary-Kate. If I had a Mary she would be Mary Kathleen Amarantha nicknamed Mary-Kate :)
My Aunt is a Mary Theresa and my uncle Joe is also married to a Mary (yeah they are Mary and Joseph :-p) and she is Mary Catherine. When we are all together my Nana calls them Mary-Tessa and Mary-Cay respectively.
I prefer non-hyphenated names with a longer mn and then shortening it. For example, with the name Mae, I like Mae Isobel nn Mae-Belle.
Some suggestions:
Mary Clara
Mary Susannah "Mary-Anna", "Mary-Sanna"
Mary Adelena "Mary-Lena"
Mary Theresa "Mary-Tess", "Mary-Tessa"
Mary Rosamund, Mary Rosalie "Mary-Rose"

I like Mary and some Mary- names. Not a huge fan of Marie though, mostly because of it's super filler middle name usage. I would advise against Mary-Jane. Although I also like Jane, too much teasing will surely ensue. Mary Beth and Mary Kate are okay though.
My favorite is Mary Catherine. You can only tease that if you used to watch SNL. :) The only other names I can think of are Mary Anne and Mary Ellen (my mom had a friend named this). Both of them are okay.
