I'm very surprised. I wouldn't think many people in the real world even know what that reference is to, much less would think of it when they heard the name Darla.

The movie came out when I was a kid
And was insanely popular, so I'm not at all surprised. Original TV, yes. Movie, not so much.

That's my 1st association, also. In fact, I can't even think of the name w/o these lines from the re-make coming to mind:
"Dear Darla,
I hate your stinkin' guts..."
Poor Darla! It's really a sweet name, too. :o/
