Help[Opinions] Yates
I think this name (for a male) has risen out of GP status into PNL status for me (but I can't add it because it's not listed--unless someone knows how to override it). Opinions? I promise, you can't possibly hurt my feelings. :)

That's what I'd think of anyway.
Besides thinking it's surnamey-trendy. So many surname-trend names seem lame to me - ones with -ton, -son, -er, and ending in -s particularly - like they're trying to make the person seem like someone s/he's not, or trying to create an aura of "uppaclass" or "romantic oldtime manners" or "one of the good ol' boys" or somesuch. I can appreciate names with romantic, heroic, or theatrical associations, but surnames seem to do it so artificially.
Anyway, Yeats, a poet-name, okay - I think it's lame, but it's not unacceptable.

I did think of Yeats, but it doesn't please me like Yates does for some reason. It's really straddling that fine line between GP and "would use" for me now.

Andrea Yates, sorry
Aside from her, I also think that Yates is too surnamey and trendy-sounding. It'd sound nice as a middle name if it were a family surname though.

I would say "no way" because of Andrea Yates, assuming you know who that is because you live in the U.S. Even if I didn't associate it with her, I still would say "no" because it's surnamey and trendy.

I don't know who Andrea Yates is. I guess I'll look it up. Doubt it will be too strong of a BA to deter my admiration of Yates though.

She was the woman who drowned her five children several years ago. Very sad story.
