[Opinions] Lainey?
OK so I have some questions for y'all.
1.)What sort of girl does the name Lainey conjure up
and
2.)Does anyone know how popular the name Lainey is? esp. in the UK...it seems to me like it may be an american name

In the UK I've never met a Lainey. It strikes me as an American sounding name and I don't think it's popular here at all. I've known women and girls named Elaine, and none went by Lainey. I've known one Leni, pronounced the same way, short for Helena.
1.)What sort of girl does the name Lainey conjure up
~ A little girl, American, big bows in her hair, perhaps a bit bratty. Her parents treat her like a little princess.
I quite like it as a pet name. It could stand alone, but then I find it cutesy and little-girlish. I'd rather say Delaney, Alaina or Helena as the full form.

Lainey seems rather brainless and ditzy to me. She would be shallow and self-centered and very fond of having her own way (read spoilt brat) however she would probably be one of the popular 'teen queen' sort.
I don't think it's popular at all in the UK (I've know one and it was an occasional nn for Elaine) however it does strike as the sort of name the 'chav' population would find ever-so-cute, I can see a little Lainey-Mae with siblings Alfie-Kai and Demi-Leigh or something and being friends with Madison, Alisha and all the 'American' sounding names. The sort of name that never gets really popular but keep cropping up in BAs, usually with a hyphen - Lainey-Jo, Lainey-Mia, Lainey-Rose etc.

1. The name Lainey makes me think of a girl who is fun-loving and kind, but can have a temper.
2. Well, if you look at the popularity data for Lainey, it has recently been used in the US in small to moderate amounts. There isn't any popularity data for Lainey in the UK, so I don't imagine it being too popular there. I've only ever met one Lainey, and she was born in 1991 or 1992 in the US.

I don't know how popular Lainey is, but...
I think of Lainey as sporty (I think of soccer for some reason, or football, since you're asking about the U.K.), maybe not the most intelligent but definitely street smart, makes friends easily, especially with people older than she is (I know that's sort of a random thing to say, but that's just what I'm getting. ^_^), pretty in a girl-next-door sort of way, doesn't need to wear a ton of makeup, listens to classic rock.
Now that I've written that out, I realize the image I have in my head is Keira Knightley in Bend it Like Beckham, even though her name was Jules in that movie.
Oh well, there's no accounting for some associations.

Lainey reminds me of sweet little girl with a bright smile and happy personality. I've never known any girls with the given name Lainey, though I have met two Laine's with the nickname Lainey. For me, it's too nicknamey on its own, but I love it as a NN for Laine (a personal favorite of mine).
Click here: Lainey and click on 'popularity'. I think we usually have the top 50 or top 100 for the UK, so if it's not in those then it won't show up for those countries at all. The US is pretty much unique in the amount of name data available.
Lainey doesn't really conjure up any image for me at all since I've never met one, but I don't like it except as a nickname.
