Message: "Estella" - Behind the Name

I have been falling for Estella lately and while I really like Stella as a nickname, I also have Esti on my list as a separate name. I like Esti, but it's not really my typical style. So, do you think I could get away with Esti as a nickname for Estella? What do you think of Esti? Should I stick with Stella? Any other ideas?

I love Estella, much better than Estelle or Stella (though I don't mind Stella, or Esti, as nn's for Estella). I had a friend named Esther--a name I also love--who was sometimes called Esti. I'm not fond of it as a 24/7 nn, but as an occasional one it's fine, imo.

Esti definitely works as a nickname for Estella! I like it a lot.

I adore all of those names (Stella / Estella / Estelle / Estrella / Estel) but sadly my boyfriend's surname ends with -ell so they're all off the possible list. Meh!

I like Estella, with the nn Stella. Esti just sounds odd to me.

I like Estella, but sometimes I have to try not to accidently say/read it as Estrella (prn. eh-STRAY-ya), which isn't a bad name either.

I think Esti is a fine nn for Estella.

IMO, you should stick with Stella, since a girl named Estella would probably end up having her name shortened to Stella anyways. I also like Estelle.

I think Esti is a very neat nn for Estella, which I think is too trendy. I love Esti / Esta / Esther, and would lean towards this family over Stella / Estella.

I don't think Estella is trendy at all.

I've never met anyone named Estella. It just makes me think of the character in Great Expectations.

I don't think Estella is popular-trendy, but I think there are a few things about it that make it a good candidate for a popularity boom.
1) the ella ending: see Ella, Bella, Isabella, Gabriella, Daniela, Annabella, Arabella, Stella
2) the closeness to Stella, which is already trendy among the antique-revival crowd
3) the literary pedigree-see other trendy (and I don't mean Caden-trendy, I mean Hazel-trendy) names like Atticus, Scarlett, Holden, and Oliver
