[Opinions] Re: Survey

1. If you love a name that is popular (like top 30 or so) would you still use it?
A. Yes
B. Yes but I would put a more unusual middle name
C. Maybe as a middle name
D. I would try to fine a more unusual form of it and use that
E. Not at all, too overused. That isn't exactly my POV though. If I only loved that name, and it clearly trumped all my other favorites, I would use it. However, that is never the case with me at all. I really, really love about 50 or so names as first names. I tend to pick the less popular names of these because I feel like (as I explained earlier today) the popular names are going to get used a lot anyway, so I should use some of the less popular names to have more names that I love out there in the world. But I don't have a problem with using a very popular name, a lot of them are really nice and deserve their popularity. It's irritating to have a REALLY popular name though.
2. Just answer these with a number(s) or does not matter
These answers are according to the concept of "flow" and are not hard rules. Also I think departures from these concepts are refreshing and often try to follow these departures. But these are the traditional concepts, and where most "filler" MN's come from
If a name is one syllable like Anne, Jane, Rose...recommend a middle name _____ syllables 3 or 4 syllables, 3rd syllable emphasized. That is, an anapest or a tertius paeon. Anne Marguerite, Janee Berenice (beh-reh-NIE-see), Rose Alexandra.
If the first name is two syllables _____ syllables for middle name
If it is an iamb (Marie, Jeanette, Colette) see 1 syllable - Marie Angelique, Jeanette Katarina
If it is a trochee (Sarah, Emma, Anna): an iamb (2 syllables, Marie, Jeanette, Colette, Nicole, Adele, Odette) or four syllables, 2nd emphasized [secundus paeon] (Elizabeth, Penelope, Olivia*, Cecilia* or one syllable
Examples: Sarah Elizabeth, Emma Louise, Anna Jean
If the first name is three syllables ______ syllables for mn
If it is a dactyl (1st emphasized, Adelaide, Marion, Claudia*): 1 syllable. [I like them with other dactyls though) Marion Jane, Adelaide May, Claudia Ruth
If it is an amphibrac (2nd emphasized): an iamb. Maria Renee, Theresa Jeanette, Marina Nicole [I like double amphibracs also: Minerva Maria Cecilia]
If the fn is four syllables ________ syllables for mn
Secundus Paeon like Elizabeth or Penelope: One. Penelope Jane, Olivia Kate. (I like them with dactyls though)
Tertius Paeon like Alexandra or Caramia: an iamb. Alexandra Marie, Caramia Therese
3. Do you like these names on a girl, boy, or none?
A. Jordan None. This name is dreadful
B. Jamie Nickname on a boy. This name is dreadful
C. Alexis Boy. This name is dreadful
D. Madison Boy I GUESS. This name is dreadful
4. Name a name for each generation or decade that is distictivly for that only when you see it. This is too hard :(
5. Would you ever name a child a name that is distictivily out of place with the time. An "old fashioned" name like Florence on a 2008 baby?
Yeah but I wouldn't do it on purpose. Also I wouldnt give them a name that was in fashion a long time ago so it would be "refreshing," if it wasn't a good name. Like I think Mabel is a bad name. I'm not too keen on Claudette or Norma either. Minerva is a good name though IMO so I'd use it.
