My parents know a guy named Matias (he's German, I believe) and he pronounces it ma-TAY-us so that's how I pronounce it. I have no idea if it is 'correct' or not.

Ma-TEE-us. I grew up with one who says it like this.

I say Matias "ma-TEE-as," but Matthias "ma-TIE-as." (Even though the correct pronunciation is, apparently, MaTHIEus, which I dislike.)

wait.I'm not sure how pronunciation works in portuguese. Do you guys plan to use an accent mark?

MAH-ty-ahs or something similiar to it. But only because It's spelled with one T. If you spell it Mattias I would prn it like mah-TEE-ahs

muh-TYE-as, surprisingly. I usually go for the 'EE' sound over the 'IE' sound but not in this case.

Mah/muh - tee- us.I have hear Mah-tie-us, on a little boy about 5 in Canada last year. His dad called him Tias (tie-us) for short. I much, much prefer the tee-us prn.

with this spelling i just assumed Mah-TEE-as
but i prn Matthias as Ma-THY-as so i can see how many people would say it as Mah-TY-as.

muh-TEE-us. I never understand the long I sound in names, it's just not generally done where I live.

I'm so happy you said 'Muh-TEE-as'. It's how we say it. I never realised a lot of people pronounce it 'Ma-tie-us', which I dislike.
