[Surname] Flammarion.
Does anyone know the meaning (and, if possible, the origin) of the surname "Flammarion"? It seems to be fairly uncommon, as the only person I've heard of that had it was Camille Flammarion (and his wife). However, I've found the name to be pleasing, and have been thinking about changing my surname to it, but I wanted to find out what it means, if it means anything at all. I'm assuming it's French, as that's what it sounds like, but I could be wrong.

Flammarion is from Old French flameron 'flame, light, torch' and would have been the nickname of a torchbearer. It's mostly found in northeastern France as you can see at http://www.geopatronyme.com/cgi-bin/carte/nomcarte.cgi?numero=0121186&periode=4
