Help[Opinions] Väinö..
inspired by someone's post of Scandinavian names, do you think of the Finnish name Väinö 'VAHY-nuh' ('wide river') is useable as a mn?
its a shortened form of Väinämöinen, a character from the epic the Kalevala.
i realise most people will probably hate it, but do you think it could work as a mn, since it isn't something you'd actually have to use in daily life?

I prefer Vainamoinen...I can't help but hear "wino" when I say Vaino even though I know they sound nothing alike. But Vainamoinen is great. I'd use it as a fn if it wasn't such a mouthful!

I like both names. I think it could work as a middle name.

As long as it's in the mn position, go for it. :-)
I wouldn't mind seeing even Vainamoinen. Both Vaino and Vainamoinen have history and meaning to them, so I see no problem. Well, maybe just one. I would make the fn recognizably masculine so one can tell at a glance (on paper) what the sex he is.
