[Opinions] Kyle
My 14 year old daughter (Mackenzie) and I were watching America's Next Top Model the other day and there is a girl on the show named Kyle. In addition there is a new movie out in which Jodi Foster's character is named Kyle.Do you think this exposure as Kyle for a girl's name will increase it's popularity in years to come?~Michelle (Mo6)

I agree with Ylva. Why do people use Kyle when there are already girl names like Kylie? That's like on Biggest Loser there is a woman named Ryan. I had seen that before and I don't understand. But then again I'm not big on using certain male names on girls.

Kyle...Kyle...KyleHmm..I thought you had a daughter named Kyle...am I wrong? Please forgive me if I am. *hides in shame*Anyway, I prefer Kyla for a girl and Kyle for a boy. It will probably become more popular, but using my non-existant gift of foresight I don't see it becoming a common girls name anytime in the near future- at least not during the next 5-10 years, considering Isabella, Abigail, and Gabriella are becoming more popular...hehe.
You and I differ highly in taste(although I adore Hollis). I'm glad you have your own style though. It's great to see an original.

I don't know ... In the US, possibly. But the names becoming popular for girls' are normally ones that are currently popular for boys too. Kyle had its heyday a little while ago, so I don't think it will become too popular for girls at this time.I love the sound of Kyle on a girl. Very cute and edgy, which I like._____________________________________________________________________Elinor"Yeehaw!" is not a foreign policy!

I don't know anything about it's popularity in America, but I never heard it used for a girl before. I like it for a girl, though. :)Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Why Kyle when there already are Kyla and Kylie?Kyle is a boy's name, Kyla and Kylie are girl's names. Why this obsession with boy's names, as if there were not enough female names? So for parents of boys, the only way to avoid having your son to share his name with girls, is giving him very common boring boy's names or a very ugly one. If a girl is named Andrew, there are still so many boys named Andrew that it is felt a boy's name. How long before people telling parent considering Kyle, "No, I know a girl named Kyle, this is too feminine for a boy"?I like Kyle for a boy.

I agreeWhy take boy's names for girls, especially when there are similar-sounding girl's names available?

if a name is used in a popular book, tv programmne, film or is used by a celebraty then it ends up being used by more people so yes it wouldnt surprise me if Kyle like Mackenzie becomes increasingly more common for girlsA childs smile is worth more to me than Gold

Most definitely, but I think its popularity will continue to increase for both sexes for years to come. I love Kyle for either gender, but since my DH is Kyle we would use Kylie if we choose to use it at all to differentiate between them. Although I call him Kylie & I'd probably end up calling her Kyle.
