[Opinions] Raiden
A few weeks ago, I was tooling around on the list of the US Top 1000 baby names and decided to look up Raiden. I was surprised to see that it hadn't made the list, given the popularity of "-aiden" names. I figured it was only a matter of time till Raiden appeared, and, lo and behold, it debuted as #931 in 2007! WDYT? I kinda like it, even if it is the name of a video game character.

FLAWLESS VICTORYSorry for the caps, but there's no other way to get the Mortal Combat voice across. I know Raiden has more of a history than just being a character name, but Mortal Combat is as relevant a part of my childhood entertainment history as the Boxcar Children and Rescue 911. It's just one of those things that has really stuck with me. :-D The connection is so direct that it'd take a lot for me to not think of Mortal Combat first thing.

Don't like it...makes me think of Raid (the bug killer).

I used to love it, but not so much anymore.

I actually love it even if it's a "aiden/aden" name. I love the sound of it and how it looks :-)

It's fine as a Japanese name pronounced rah-ee-den. However, as a tryndeigh name pronounced RAY-den, I think it's horrible along with the other -ayden names.

I like it, but I feel it's probably only popular because it rhymes with Aiden, and is therefore cool. It's one of my PP's. It's a variant transcription of a Japanese mythology character (Raijin), actually. What video game is that from?

My DH wanted to name our son this...Raiden is the Japanese God of Thunder, and it's from the video game Mortal Kombat. His favorite.
I'm kind of glad we didn't, given the now-popularity of Aidan.

I know a guywho loves Mortal Kombat so much that he insisted that his first child must be Raiden no matter what -- and they had a girl. I feel kinda bad for the kid, but, meh, there are worse.

His name is Trevor Lief. =o)
Lief is my DH's mn and his grandfather's mn. I'm not sure why they spell it this way, but Leif is scandinavian for beloved.
He wasn't SO adamant about Raiden but he was dead-set that he was going to pass on his middle name.

I gotta say Trevor, while not my style, is a million times better than Raiden :)Leif is cool. It's my Mormor's (Danish grandma's) friends name. Do you prn. it the same way as Life? That's the way he prn. his name.
