[Facts] Prn of Amadeo
There's a little dispute in our family about this. My SIL from Spain pronounces it Ah-MAH-dee-o, and DH's Italian uncle pronounces it Ah-mah-DAY-o. But neither is willing to speak about what the "official" pronunciation might be.
I know there may be more than one legitimate pronunciation, but it seems odd to me that the Spanish and Italian would differ (although I don't speak either, so maybe that's my mistake?). I also know, based on my internet research that Ah-mah-DAY-o is legitimate. Anyone know if Ah-MAH-dee-o is?

Amadeo is pronounced ah-mah-DAY-oh in Spanish and Italian. I have no idea where ah-MAH-dee-oh came from, unless you seperate it a bit as ama dios (loves God).
No
In Spanish, it is not -DAY-, it is -DEH-. The Spanish vowels are all pure, short, not semidipthong:
a = as in "water"
e = as in "end"
i = as in "keen"
o = as in "home"
u = as in "choose"

Amadeo in Spanish
In Spanish, Amadeo is pronounced ah-mah-DEH-oh. And this is the only correct pronunciation of the name in Spanish.

Thanks -
so the DEH is pronounced like the De- in Den? The emphasis on that syllable definitely makes more sense than on the MAH, since its a form of Amadeus.
