[Opinions] Thoughts on Lola
Replies
I think Lola is such a cute name. I love the way it sounds and looks, but the meaning puts me off! I could never use a name that means sorrows, I just don't like that at all.
stripper name
I don't like it. Between the two songs and Lolita, it has too many bad connotations, mostly related to sex. And on top of that it's tacky and trendy. And a nickname.

I think it is incredibley tacky. On the plus side, there was a baby in the NICU with my little sister for the same amount of time (they were born a day apart and went home 3 days apart) named Lola. She was Lola Francesca Eve and a more fiesty little babe you have never met! We still see her family quite a bit and she is a gorgeous child so that has changed my perception of the name a little...but any Lola is going to have Barry Manilo sung to her wherever she goes.
Well, it's my nickname. My kid brother couldn't say Laura... no r sounds until he was almost 8. Lola was the closest he could come to my name and by the time he was 8, it had stuck. For me Lola's a big, fat, round name. Cosy, comfy & homey. Might be because I've been Lola for so long, it just doesn't scream blowsy to me; that's Lolita. ETA: I like it, but only as a nickname for something more elegant. It works for any L name. I think it's rather sad as a standalone though, there's nothing elegant about Lola.

I really dislike Lola. It sounds all vamp and transvestite to me.
Lola makes me think of two songs, and I really don't think can form an objective opinion on the name because...well, she's either a showgirl, or she's a man. So, I mean, I suppose the name sounds all right, but the associations are terrible.
Never liked it. It just sounds terribly cheap and trashy to me, like a loud, fat woman in tight jeans and high heels and too gobs of makeup, getting drunk in a bar and hanging on every man she sees trying to hook up with somebody, anybody, who will buy her a few tacky things.
Well, it's got history to it so on that count I'm happy to see it being used.
But I can't get the "showgirl" image out of my mind.

I don't care for it. It is a nn really, anyway.
It seems, I don't know, cheap or, erm.. slutty? Sorry to be so harsh! It is not a name I would want to see on a child. Or a person.

I've always thought it was really cute, despite the Lolita connection. Lola Jacqueline has been a long-time GP. :D
I don't care for Lola, Lolita, or Lana. Maybe because the movie/book Lolita and Lana Turner. These names just seem trampy to me.
I know it isn't just the L sounds. I like Laura, Lara, Lourdes, Laurel, and Lauren.
