My mother originally wanted to use the sister's names. But Jo was taken by her sister and my father had a cousin who named her daughters Amy & Beth. I'm don't recall why she didn't use Meg. Therefore she decided on Laurie.
Everyone mispronounces her name as LOR-ee though. Our 5 year-old nephew just can't figure it out, he insists on calling her LOR-ee.
BTW, there are two other Laurie's that post on this board. One posts as Laurie, the other posts as Laurie2
