Help[Opinions] Adelaide
I've always liked this name, but I have a concern: it's jumped back into the US top 1000. Do you think this is going to be the next "revival" name, in the vein of Isabella?
Also, I'd love your opinions on Adelaide, plus any sibling or combo suggestions.

Sorry, but I think your suspicion is on target
If memory serves me correctly, this name entered the top 1000 in 2006 starting inthe 900's somewhere. In 2007 it was in the 700's. That's like a 200 spot jump in one year.
Also, this board which seems to be ahead of the trends, has lots of comments on Adelaide and it seems to be on everyone's PNL.
I think I sense the next Ava or Isabella - names that went from obscurity to overuse in just a few short years.
Other names that I think are in danger (for lack of a better word; I guess "danger" is sort of dramatic):
Clementine
Penelope (sure hope I'm wrong here, love this name)
Matilda (celebrity staple)

Agree re Adelaide but not the rest
I think C and P (check out P's charts) might make underground hipstername trends, but never mainstream. Matilda might, but Adelaide is a power target: it's got the trendy nickname Addy, the long A sound, is unfamiliar enough to be fresh but familiar enough to go along with the Classy Name Revival.
I would definitely not mind seeing more Adelaides around.

You know, I have a sneaky suspicion (sp?) that this name is going to make a major comeback. As for sibling names, what about:

According to this sites popularity charts, in 1990 Adelaide and Isabella were equally popular for all ages; that is of all people living in the U.S. in 1990, Isabella and Adelaide occured with approx. the same frequency. In fact Adelaide was slightly more popular than Isabella from 1900-1950. Isabella just came into popularity again (in 1990) a few years ahead of Adelaide.
The more I look at that, the more possible it seems that Adelaide could become seriously popular here. :(

I would hate for that to happen to Adelaide.
In a way I'm glad it is becoming a little better known, but I was happier when Adelaide was in the high 900's on the chart. Honestly, I don't think it will make it into the top 300 or so, unless some celebrity uses it. I doubt it will make it as high up the charts as Isabella though.
Adelaide is one of my favourite names, it's my oldest daughters name.
Sibling names: Jasper, Benedict, Leopold, Charles, Laurence, Henry
Clementine, Cordelia, Beatrix, Lillian, Delphine, Winifred
As for combos, I think Adelaide works well with simple mns, one or two syllables. Ivy, Eve, Faith, Louise, Pearl. Longer, frillier names work as well, but might be too much unless the ln is short.

Haha, yeah, if I did ever use the name Adelaide, the popularity rise would end up being a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

But I agree. We can't tell the future - it's only number 712 out of the top 1000 names. It might make a comeback, but I don't think that it will get to the top 250.
