[Opinions] I'm old enough to remember Gelsey Kirkland, the ballerina (hard "g" sound) (m)
The name Gelsey will always be tied in my mind to Gelsey Kirland and ballet. She pronounced it with a hard "g." There were quite a few parents considering the name in the early 80's, about when the movie "The Turning Point" was released. (Ms K wasn't in the film, but only because of health problems. It would have been the perfect way to memorialize her and Mikhail Barishnikov dancing together. There was a lot of buzz about that at the time.) I can't say I really ever liked the name. It was one of the first fad names I remember, that and Aileen. Aileen McCardle (sp?) was the first to star in "Annie" on Broadway. Seeing how badly both of these names have held up over the years just reinforces my fear of trendy names. I'm glad your parents resisted the temptation.
