[Opinions] Estella
Estella has been one of my favorites for over 5 years now. I just recently thought of it again. I loved it ever since reading "Great Expectations". What do you think ?I know that Stella is getting popular. Estella hasn't been in the top 1000 for several decades but do you think it will come back ? Could it ever make the top 100 ? Do you think if Stella will get really popular that people will always just hear "Stella" when she introduces herself ? The one letter doesn't really make the sound of it very different so I fear that people will always confuse it with Stella. What kind of image does the name have ? Do you think an Estella is always a bit too sure of herself or mean to others or a bit stuck up ?Do you think the name is too harsh or too hard to say ?Thanks!

I don't think so. I like Estella. I think it's pretty. I don't see it as a stuck up name at all. Good choice!

I love it. The literary connection is both good and bad; Estella is a classic character, but she's also kind of a bee-otch. That hasn't tainted the name for me, though. I think its still beautiful (and much better than Stella).

What do you think ?
- An elegant name. Much better than Estelle. I like the est-part and Estella has many nickname possibilities - Essie, Stella, Ella, Ellie, Stelleta, Estelle, El, Esté, Steren, Stacie, Esti, Esta, Elsie...I know that Stella is getting popular. Estella hasn't been in the top 1000 for several decades but do you think it will come back ?
- I've no idea. That's completely possible, but I don't believe it will arrive in the top 300 for a long time.
Could it ever make the top 100 ?
- ? In 80 years, for sure. Much earlier, if it'll be "rediscivered" because of Dickens-trend or some kind of film, celebrity... Do you think if Stella will get really popular that people will always just hear "Stella" when she introduces herself ?
- I don't believe so and even if something semilar will happen, I don't believe it it a huge problem, if Estella will only like hear name. (I hate my first name and espeially the fact it gets mixed with other forms it has. At the same time I like my middle name, and it doesn't bother me at all that people mix it sometimes.) I can see the risk Estella will get called Stella for short all the time, though. That could make problems if you don't like Stella.Do you think an Estella is always a bit too sure of herself or mean to others or a bit stuck up ?
- Well, -ella/-elle names tend to have such an image, at least to me. Do you think the name is too harsh or too hard to say ?
- Estella is very clear and easy to say. :) Maybe there could be problems with the pronunciation of "E" at the beginning. I say authomatically e-STEL-lah, but someone might say uh-STEL-ah or i-STEL-a. :P

It's been many years since I read Great Expectations so I don't associate the name Estella with the character in the book anymore, especially after having met a few Estellas. I think the only way Estella will make a comeback into the top 100 is if it's featured in a popular book/movie (ex: Trinity), or if it's the name of a popular actress or her child...I personally like Stella more than Estella, though both are quite pretty. I don't think it's harsh or hard to say at all.As for the image it conjurs up - all the Estellas I know (the whole 3 of them lol) are all very sweet, polite young ladies, so I think of a nice, polite, kind, and sort of pretty girl when I hear the name.
